Preparing the next generation of aviators.
Obtaining a Flight Instructor Rating (FIR) is a rewarding and exciting challenge for any pilot. It’s an incredibly fulfilling experience to see a student that you trained fly solo for the first time. A flight instructor role can be an exciting career in itself, and it is also a great way for you to earn money and build both knowledge and Pilot in Command (PIC) hours for the next step in your aviation career.
This Flight Instructor Rating (FIR) course will offer you both the FIR and the Grade 3 Training Endorsement. The syllabus includes 36 hours of flight training as well as comprehensive ground briefing training so that you will be able to effectively instruct in both practical and theoretical settings. While working as a Flight Instructor, you have the opportunity to undertake a range of additional training endorsements, allowing you to teach students in more varied flight activities. This even further expands the ways in which you can build hours.
Upon enrolment, you will receive a Training Starter Kit which contains all relevant course materials, access to shared online resources, and detailed information on your course process. Your orientation will include an introduction to the airport, airspace, aircraft fleet, LTF processes and policies, and our facilities.
The theory sessions are designed to teach you the principles and methods of instruction including instructional techniques, effective communication skills and teaching methods. After that, you will need to pass the CASA Flight Instructor Rating theory exam.
You will be taught how to provide a long brief, pre-flight briefings, plan lessons and conduct a productive lesson period. You will also learn how to create your own PowerPoint briefs.
You will conduct 36 hours of flight instructor training as part of the course. You need to demonstrate that you are able to analyse student responses and determine corrective measures when necessary. You will also need to satisfactorily complete air manoeuvres as well as to conduct pre-flight briefings and post-flight debriefings.
After ongoing instruction and practice, you will be ready to be put forward for your Flight Instructor Rating flight test. If you meet the appropriate standard, your Flight Instructor Rating will be granted on completion of the flight test.
Safe & Seamless Training.

Flight Instructor Rating (FIR)
Welcome to the Learn to Fly FAQ section! Here, we've gathered the most frequently asked questions about our FIR Training Program to help you navigate your journey towards becoming a Flight Instructor. Our aim is to provide you with the essential information you need to begin this exciting adventure with confidence. For further assistance, feel free to contact us.
A Flight Instructor Rating is required for anyone who wants to teach others how to fly. In Australia, you must hold a Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) or Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) to qualify for the Flight Instructor Rating under CASA Part 61 regulations. Beyond eligibility, becoming a flight instructor is a great way to start your pilot career. Instructor positions are typically easier to secure than airline or charter roles for early-career pilots. Additionally, instructors can build flight hours more quickly, gaining valuable experience that helps open doors to airline and commercial opportunities in the future.
We don’t guarantee employment after graduation, as it depends on each student’s training performance and how busy we are at the time they complete the course. However, we only hire Grade 3 instructors from our own graduates, and currently, over 70% of our instructors are former students. Since we provide a high volume of ab-initio training, most of our Grade 3 instructors progress to Grade 2 within 7 to 10 months. Please note that for international students, we do not offer sponsorship or work visas, we can only employ those who already hold valid work rights in Australia.
The package includes 36 flying hours, which meets the minimum requirement outlined in our FIR syllabus to be eligible for the FIR flight test. Most students are able to complete their training within this timeframe, although some may require an additional 3 to 5 flying hours.
Since progress can vary from student to student, the package covers the initial 36 hours, and any additional hours required will be charged on a Pay-As-You-Go basis.
Yes, you can choose to complete the course either in a group setting or through individual training.
If you join a group, you’ll need to attend at least 4 days per week to keep up with the structured schedule.
If you’re working full-time and can’t commit to that, we offer individual training tailored to your availability. However, please note that this option typically takes longer to complete and is more expensive, as theory sessions are conducted one-on-one rather than in a group.
Yes, we do. Please contact us and let us know your intended check-in and check-out dates, we'll promptly inform you about availability.
